Bazuaye targets top-five finish for Katsina United

By Daily Sports on May 12, 2017

The aspiration of most recently promoted teams to the NPFL is to survive the drop but Katsina United coach Baldwin Bazuaye is aiming higher.

In Bazuaye's estimation, a top-five finish will represent a successful season for him.

"I have set very high targets. I want us to finish among the top five. I wouldn't mind a continental ticket but a more realistic target for me is top five," he said.

Doesn't he feel that, for a team like Katsina United, such ambitions would amount to punching above their weight?

He cuts in: "No...no...no. I know the type of team I have put together and that is why I am aiming higher. You will notice that my team is one of the most difficult teams to play against in the league. We can hold our own on any ground. That is what I have put into the boys, to make them play without fear. Look, this football doesn't know who bought it. Once you play it well, it obeys you."

Bazuaye has no intentions of ditching his high pressing, entertaining pattern of play.

"The best form of defence is attack. If you attack most of the time, you defend less. I tell my boys to press high up so that the defenders can have some breathing space. It is this pattern that makes it difficult to play against us.
We do that whether we are playing at home or away," he explained.

To achieve his goals, he has plugged identified loopholes during the mid-season break.

"We have made key recruitments which we have kept close to our chest. We wouldn't want to reveal our weapons.
But we have fortified every position. We signed players in every department. This break is an opportunity to recharge our batteries and we have not wasted it. Watch out for a better Katsina this second stanza," he enthused.
