Familiar with Alex Iwobi’s quality, Fulham manager Marco Silva has backed the Nigeria international to shine at Craven Cottage following his impressive performance in the EFL Cup third-round clash against Norwich City on Wednesday.
Iwobi got an assist and scored on his first start for Fulham as Silva’s side beat Norwich City 2-1 to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round.
The Nigeria midfielder finished off a fine team move in the second half after Carlos Vinicius’ first-half opener at Craven Cottage.
The goal is Iwobi’s first for Fulham since his summer transfer from Everton, where he had previously clinched the Players’ Player of The Year award.
Silva, who lured Iwobi away from Arsenal to join Everton back in 2019 during his time at Everton, expressed confidence in the player’s potential to shine at Craven Cottage.
“He’s a player that I know can add for us in many different positions,” Silva stated, as per London News Online, emphasising his familiarity with Iwobi’s abilities.
“I know him really well; I was responsible for signing him at Everton. His quality and his energy are going to be important for us.”
While Iwobi had contributed to 40 goals in 149 appearances during his time with Arsenal, his performance at Everton was modest, with only nine goals and 16 assists in 140 games across all competitions.
