Gov. Ugwuanyi moves to stabilise Rangers •Warns saboteurs to shape up or ship out

The two NPFL results posted by relegation-threatened Rangers International in their rescheduled league games against Kano Pillars and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi did not come as a surprise.

Daily Sports can authoritatively report that the meeting of the management, technical crew, players and other key stakeholders of the team with Governor Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi was key to the resurgence of the legendary club.
It was gathered that the disappointed Governor charged everybody to turn a new leaf, forget about their differences and get down to the task of ensuring that Rangers would not drop off NPFL radar at the end of the season.

A highly placed source in the Government House, Enugu, who was at the meeting, revealed that the Governor was livid about the situation that befell Rangers while addressing the meeting.

According to him, the Governor told the gathering that anybody that was not ready to abide by every tenet that would aid the Flying Antelopes escape relegation should leave the squad after the meeting. He added that resignation from the team would serve as best option for such individuals. Similarly, anybody that would be feeling superior and making sweeping statements that could generate tension, discord, propel distraction and disunity should also give way from the team, Hon. Ugwuanyi reportedly said.

“The intention of the meeting with the Governor was solely for the reconciliation of the warring parties. His Excellency was clear and unmistakable in his terms and conditions to all key people that were entrusted with the success of Rangers by the people and government of Enugu State, no more, no less,” the source said.

It was further gathered that the meeting also agreed to pull its entire support to coach Agbo led technical crew instead of going for a new technical hand. It recalled that Rangers benefitted from this kind of situation on ground when Kelechi Emetole left the team, Imama took over and led Rangers to break the 34-year league trophy draught.

However, another top insider within Rangers corroborated the above, adding that anybody that causes disaffection within the fragile team would not only be booted out but will also be singled out as a saboteur.

“We have resolved to be quiet and work harder and together as a team to achieve the tall order from the Governor.

No stone would be left unturned to exactly demonstrate same and grab the needful. The decision at the meeting which was chaired by His Excellency remains binding on all. We are working assiduously to concentrate. We want to continue with the two good showings so far both home and away. We all knew the tougher nature of the second stanza and would prepare for the worse. The management will also fortify the team with sharper lads that would help turn our fortunes around. We are ready,” the source said.
