Youngster Akaolisah hits four to send BJ into Edo FA Cup quarter-final

BJ FC are the talk of the town as far as grassroots football is concerned in Edo State. When the team is to play a match, fans usually turn up in large numbers to watch the exciting youngsters of the club dish out their football skills. So it was at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium last Tuesday as the club filed out against Osaro FC in the second round of the ongoing Edo FA Cup.

There was an air of expectation that Osaro would put up a good fight against BJ having won a thrilling game in their first match when they beat experienced campaigners Royal Force 4-3 in the first round of the Federation Cup. But their resistance petered out in the early minutes of the tie with BJ as the latter ran riot.

BJ's intention was clear from the start and it was to go for early goals. They lined up with an ultra attacking 3-2-5 formation and Osaro couldn't handle the pressure coming from all sides. In the end, young attacker, Tochukwu Akaolisah became the talk of the stadium as he banged in four goals to help BJ to a 5-0 win, making him current top scorer of the competition.

Akaolisah

Akaolisah scored a first half hat trick. His first three goals were from simple tap-ins as he showed a strong sense of positional awareness to punish Osaro’s passive defence. His goal celebration made many laugh. He mimicked the kind of goal celebration by Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard who said the dance came from one of American artiste Drake’s videos.

BJ are fresh from winning last week's Niger Delta cup in Port Harcourt where they were rewarded with a N500,000 cash prize. A few weeks earlier they won the maiden edition of the Naija Bet Football Competition in Benin City, pocketing the 300,000 naira prize money on offer. The club is now one of the hot favourites to win the N500,000 cash prize for the FA Cup.

Meanwhile Bendel Insurance laboured to a narrow 1-0 win against Yak FC in another Edo FA Cup second round match. The goal was scored in the first half. Yak fought gallantly but couldn’t find enough physical resources upfront to punish an overconfident Insurance side.
