Cote d’Ivoire was extremely impressive on Friday night as they beat Russia 2-0 in an international friendly at the Stadion FK Krasnodar.
Despite playing away from home the Elephants took control of the match from the opening whistle, but proved to be wasteful in front of goal.
Nonetheless, Cote d’Ivoire persisted in attack and found the opening goal on the half hour mark after Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia turned home a pass from Serge Wilfried Kanon.
Russia tried to find their way back into the game, but went into the half time break trailing by a goal.
The Elephants came out strong at the start of the second half, but again for all their possession they failed to create any significant goal scoring chances.
That was until the 70th minute when Crystal Palace striker Wilfried Zaha found the back of the net after an assist from Cheick Doukoure.
Cote d’Ivoire took their foot of the pedal in the final 20 minutes and cruised to an inspiring 2-0 win over Russia away from home.
The Elephants are next in action on Monday, 27 March, in another international friendly against Senegal at the Stade Sébastien-Charléty in Paris, France. (mtnfootball.com)
