MFM’s Stephen Odey now top scorer in NPFL

By Daily Sports on March 20, 2017

Mountain of Fire striker Stephen Odey has eclipsed his goal scoring record last year, by netting 10 goals for the club.

He scored two of the goals today by recording a brace against league leaders Plateau United in the MatchDay 14 played in Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Odey’s 10 goals is the highest by any player in the 2016/2017 Nigerian Professional Football League season.

Four of the goals came with an assist by team mate, Sikiru Olatunbosun, which according to NPFL Statistics is also the highest assist in the league.

Olatunbosun himself had created a web sensation when his goal against Rangers three weeks ago, was the toast of soccer buffs worldwide. It won CNN goal of the week and was recommended by football fans as a candidate for FIFA Puskas Award. Incidentally, Odey had provided Olatunbosun the assist for the goal.

Odey was born 16 January 1998. He joined MFM last year and as at 27 February this year, has netted 27 goals, in all games for the club.

Odey also had the distinction of recording his first hat trick against Lobi Stars in January.

He won the NPFL Player of the Month and League Bloggers Award also in January 2017.
