The Sun Best Man of the Year award bestowed on the Chairman, League Management Company (LMC) Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Dikko, has been described as the best thing to happen to a visionary and charismatic sports administrator like him.
The Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike (JP), made the remarks in a congratulatory statement made available to the press. Chief Ejidike noted that Alhaji Shehu Dikko has impacted positive innovations and changes into the once moribund Nigerian professional league.
“Today, Nigerian league is rebranded like a product. The League Management Company has gone to the Nigerian Stock Exchange thereby providing market window for our league. Clubs can now be quoted in the capital market.
Surely and steadily Nigerian league is leaping higher; all these under the administrative acumen of Shehu Dikko.
He actually merits the award. I heartily congratulate him.”
Ejidike also applauded the management and board of The Sun newspaper for giving deserving Nigerians such award as such would spur them to contribute more and ginger others to emulate the awardees. He urged Shehu Dikko to see the award as a call to do more in the sports sector.
Meanwhile, Ejidike has cautioned the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN to thread the part of peace on the issue of Mitchell Obi's endorsement. Ejidike said such issue should not be allowed to degenerate into a crisis as any row at this period may create disaffection and affect oneness of the vibrant association. He urged the SWAN President, Honour Sirawo to make wider consultations with well-meaning stakeholders of the association to calm frayed nerves even as he warned against any utterances that may further fan the embers of discord from both parties.
