Former Super Eagles safe hands, Peter Rufai, popularly called ‘Dodo Mayana’ by his numerous admirers across the globe has expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after missing out on the continental football flagship football competition in the two previous editions in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon in 2015 and 2017 respectively, owing to the inability of the Eagles to qualify for the two championships.
According to Rufai, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is doing everything possible to ensure that Eagles qualify for the next edition of the championship, which will be hosted by Cameroon in 2019.
He said he has seen some positive developments with the coming of the Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Franco-German Gernot Rohr and his able assistants.
Rufai explained that with matches played so far under the guidance of Gernot Rohr, there has been great improvement with the team, saying that Nigerians have seen some co-ordinations, team work and real development on the part of the team.
“I think that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are doing everything possible to make sure that Nigeria qualifies for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations come 2019,” Rufai emphasised.
“So far, we have seen some developments with the coming of the Technical Adviser from Germany and we have equally seen the technical team as well. So, they are coordinated and the team is co-ordinated as well.
“Therefore, from the matches they have played so far, we have seen some improvements, we have seen some co-ordinations, we have seen team work and we have seen some real development. It is not yet Uhuru though, but there have been a lot of improvements,” Rufai explained.
Speaking further, the former Eagles first choice goalkeeper said, “There is no doubt that the Nigeria Football Federation is on the right track.
“I strongly believe this and I know that they are putting everything in place to make sure that this time around, Nigeria qualifies for the next AFCON in 2019,” Rufai said.
