Guinea Bissau FA President demands $630,000 from government

President of the Football Federation of Guinea Bissau, Opes Manuel Nascimento is demanding $630,000 from the government that was spent on preparations for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Guinea Bissau qualified for the Afcon competition for the first time, but failed to go past the first round.

Nascimento told MTNFootball.com that he he is waiting for the government to refund his money used for the team to travel during the qualifiers and preparations for Afcon.

“There was no way I could simply wait for money from the government when the team was in need of air tickets to travel during the qualifiers and preparing for the competition. I will wait for the government to come to me when it’s ready,” said Nascimento at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Libreville.

The Guinea Bissau President said sometimes it is not easy to wait for money from governments and instead they have to look around from companies or even use their personal finances.

“As a President of the Federation I will keep waiting to see if the government will clear the money I spent, but the most important thing is that we worked hard to see the national team qualify for Afcon,” he added.

Guinea Bissau drew with hosts Gabon 1-1 in their opening Group A match before falling 2-1 to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. They lost the last group game 2-0 to Burkina Faso. (mtnfootball.com)
