As clubs gear up for the commencement of the 2016/17 league season this weekend all things being equal, Team Manager of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Enugu Rangers, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, has expressed optimism that Rangers will give the country good and quality representation on the continent and at the same time possibly defend the trophy they won after 32 year wait.
Ezeaku stated this in an exclusive telephone interview with Daily Sports. He explained that if the financier of the club, the Enugu State government will be able to make the environment conducive for the club to conduct their affairs, the Coal City based club would perform well considering the calibre of players and technical crew in their fold.
“Of course, we are prepared for the new season like every other team. We are hopeful that we are going to do well just like other clubs want to do well,” Amobi declared.
“It is our hope that we do well on the continent as one of the county’s representatives in CAF Champions League competition.
“I want to assure you that it is our desire as usual to give the country quality representation. This is not the first time that Rangers would be representing the country on the continent though it has been long that the club represented the country on the continent. But we are not new on the continental football stage.
“Apart from doing well on the continent, Rangers want to possibly defend the trophy we won last season after 32 year wait. Inasmuch as Rangers will do all they could to do well on the continent, we are not going to allow that to distract us from doing well in the league because it will be sweet if we defend the league title.
“So, Rangers have prepared bearing in mind that we are the focus of every eye both locally and internationally. We are aware of the expectations of people and I want to assure Nigerians that we will not disappoint them because we are determined to do our best for the country as we fly one of the flags on the continent and at the same time try to defend the league crown we won last season,” Amobi explained.
