Supersand Eagles’ captain, Isiaka Olawale has said his side will kick start their title chase on a winning against Egypt at the on-going Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations in Nigeria.
The Eagles will confront the North Africans in Tuesday’s Afcon Beach Soccer Group A matchday 1 clash at the Eko Atlantic City ground in Lagos, Nigeria.
Olawale said his side have always had the upper hands in previous clashes against the North African opposition.
“The first game is quite important as victory in the encounter will serve as morale boost going into the other matches so we want to commence our campaign on a winning note.
“Egypt are familiar foes in the beach soccer game, we have met severally in the past and we have emerged winners.
“However, that is not to say they are pushovers, the Egyptians are good and have equally played tested matches prior to the championship and certain to pose a hard nut to crack.
“We have equally done our homework well, pushed every other distraction behind us to focus 100% on the clash against Egypt.
“We will give our very best as good results will always speak for us especially in the minds of Nigerians,” said the veteran player to supersport.com.
Olawale said his side sole target is to enter into the medal zone of the championship.
“Of course, we are quite aware that only the finalists will make it to the World Cup in the Bahamas next year so we want to be one of them.
“The past seasons have seen us losing in the last four narrowly and painfully, too.
“Right now we want to push ourselves to the semifinals then progress to the final which automatically guaranteed us the World Cup ticket.
“In the final the first target, World Cup ticket, is secured and as hosts, we will strive to win the title as yuletide gift to Nigerians,” said Olawale.
