Director of Football (DOF), Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC, Alloy Chukwuemeka, has said that the newly-promoted side are almost ready for the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Chukwuemeka spoke on Monday evening with the newsmen after his team's 2-1 victory over Lubcon FC, an Ilorin-based amateur side in a pre-season friendly.
He said six of the team's former players are back with them after more than a week open screening where over 150 players attended.
Chukwuemeka, who is the Secretary of the Club Owners and Managers Association, explained that only 25 players were adjudged to have met the club requirements during the open screening that was concluded on Monday.
"We have ended our open screening, though we will continue assessing players which will only be those we invited.
"After the (Nigeria National League) Super4 in Gombe, we will move to a closed camp where we will be looking at the invited players.
"In the camp, we will be doing elimination by substitution to finalize our presentation," stated Chukwuemeka.
He commended the proprietor of the club, Dr Bukola Saraki, for his support to the team.
He said the country's senate president is fully determined to make the team one of the best in the country.
Chukwuemeka added that Dr Saraki has said that the welfare of the team must be top priority hence the reason the club has paid all entitlements to everyone to date.
Also speaking after the friendly match on Monday, one of the team's first-team coaches, Moshood Adebayo, said that with the quality of players he selected from the screening, he has made the job of the head coach, Henry Makinwa, easier to manage whenever he returns from his holidays in Spain.
Adebayo said the technical crew is ready to raise a formidable team that will take the NPFL by storm again.
He explained that the team are looking for players that will compliment the effort of the talented youngsters already at the club. (npfl.ng)
