Chairman of two time African champions, Enyimba International Football Club of Aba and a member of the executive board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, has expressed happiness over Super Eagles’ emphatic victory against the Fennecs of
Algeria on Saturday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, at the World Cup qualifying game.
The immediate past chairman of the technical committee of the NFF explained that what is important is to build the team so that they can sustain the success so far recorded in their bid to qualify the country for the 2018 World Cup which will be played host to by Russia.
Anyansi-Agwu stated this in an exclusive telephone interview with Daily Sports immediately the game ended in Uyo in favour of Nigeria. He said that there was still much work to be done as the road to securing the sole ticket of the team’s Group B was still far despite the comfortable lead of the team.
“First and foremost, I would like to congratulate the technical crew of the team led by Gernot Rohr and the entire team for this resounding victory over Algeria,” Anyansi-Agwu declared.
“The victory didn’t come easy. It came as a result of hard work and commitment of the players and their handlers. It was a sweet victory and just like every other Nigerian, I am happy and I thank God that we were able to get the job done in a convincing manner.
“Having said that I would like to say that what is important is to build the team. This is a young team we are building and I would like us to remain focused because a lot still needs to be done.
“Of course you have to give it to the coach who has shown his maturity and has given the team and Nigerian football a direction. The coach has brought his maturity and experience to bear on the team and the result is gradually manifesting.
“So far so good, it is a young team and we will continue to build it. We are not yet there yet but we are making progress,” Anyansi-Agwu said.
Continuing, he said: “I would also want to commend the players in a special way for their commitment, hard work and focus which has seen us thus far. My advice to them is that we should not be carried away because there is still a lot of work to be done.
“We need to continue to work hard and committed in our bid to build a team that all of us will be proud of,” Anyansi-Agwu advised
