Anichebe tops Nigeria display in Europed

By Daily Sports on November 8, 2016

Victor Anichebe made his first start for struggling Sunderland in the English Premier League over the weekend to telling effect at the weekend.

The forward scored one and was fouled for the penalty that led to Sunderland’s winner on a day he will not forget in a hurry.

Anichebe was not the only Nigerian who impressed at the weekend and supersport.com now rounds up the best of the action.

ENGLAND (PREMIER LEAGUE)

Anichebe scored a fantastic goal in his first start for the Black Cats as he inspired David Moyes’ men to their first league win of the season – a 2-1 success over AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Victor Moses continues to lead by example with sparkling displays for Chelsea.

He was unfortunate not to score for the Blues in the 5-0 trouncing of Everton at Stamford Bridge and he watched a stunning drive cannon off the post.

Moses however impressed with a solid all-round display that earned plaudits from the Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte.

Alex Iwobi started for Arsenal in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.

Iwobi was replaced by Olivier Giroud in the 70th minute in the game that finished 1-1.

Odion Ighalo was on from start to finish for Watford on a very difficult day in the office for the Hornets.

Watford came up against the best team in the country and received stern lessons as Liverpool ran away 6-1 winners at Anfield.

Ahmed Musa put in a lively performance for Leicester City before he was surprisingly substituted by the Foxes manager, Claudio Ranieri, in the second half as they lost 1-2 to West Bromwich Albion at the King Power Stadium.

GERMANY (BUNDESLIGA)

Leon Balogun played the entire game for Mainz 04 in the 1-3 loss to the surprise side of the season – the joint leaders, RB Leipzig.

Balogun has now made eight league appearances for Mainz this season.

The only (two) games he missed were as a result of an injury he picked up earlier in the campaign.

That injury also ruled him out of Nigeria’s first 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Ndola but he is now in fine fettle for Saturday’s crunch game against Algeria in Uyo.

ITALY (SERIE A)

Joel Obi came on as a second half substitute for Torino, replacing Danielle Baselli in the 5-1 annihilation of Cagliari at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

SPAIN (PRIMERA DIVISION)

Uche Agbo played for 75 minutes before Sergi Samper took his place in Granada’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.

FRANCE (LIGUE 1)

Vincent Enyeama was in action for Lille OSC in the club’s 0-1 loss to Angers at Stade Jean Bouin.

TURKEY (SUPER LIG)

It was a mixed day for Kenneth Omeruo who played all minutes for Alanyaspor in the 4-3 win over Gaziantepspor.

Omeruo scored an own goal at Alanya Oba Stadyumu.

Ogenyi Onazi played for 80 minutes as his side, Trabzonspor, lost 1-2 to Besiktas at Vodafone Arena.

Godfrey Oboabona was in action for Rizespor in the 2-2 draw with the bottom club, Adanaspor, at Yeni Rize Sehir Stadi (Rize).

Aminu Umar was substituted in second half added time as Osmanlispor drew 1-1 with Kayserispor at Osmanli Stadi.

Emem Eduok was in action for Kasimpasa in the 1-2 defeat to Konyaspor at Konya Büyüksehir Torku Arena.

Emmanuel Emenike played his part in Fenerbahçe’s 3-1 victory over Akhisar Belediyespor. (supersport.com)
