Egypt are tightening security ahead of their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Ghana later this month, due to a threat directed at the visitors’ Israeli coach Avram Grant.
According to Egyptian media reports, the country’s FA has received threats from supporters who supposedly plan on attacking the former Chelsea manager.
The religious hatred between Arab and Israeli people is the fuel behind these threats to Grant, who will bring his Ghana team to Alexandria for a group stage clash on November 13.
A member of the Egypt FA has revealed that his organisation has information regarding fans who have plans to harass the Ghana coach upon his arrival in the country and for the duration of the Black Stars’ stay.
"They plan to hurt him with several attacks of chants and rude to him and they want him not come into Egypt land because people don’t like him around," a source told Ghanaian media outlet Sports Obama.
Part of the aggression towards Grant is also due to the coach’s earlier comments in which he argued that the match against Egypt should be played on neutral ground. (mtnfootball.com)
