The African Football Players Forum ’16, an Independent and non-aligned event, which will discuss strategies on how football’s stakeholders could work together for the benefit of all Football Players, will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa from December 8 - 9. This will be the third edition of the Forum where the interest of football players will be the main focus point.
The first Forum was held in November 2014 with clubs, agents, academies, leagues, FAs and Player Unions from across Africa attending and it was followed up by the launch of the African Football Intermediaries Association (AFIA) in February 2016, both taking place in Johannesburg.
Football’s key stakeholders are once again set to convene to discuss pertinent issues around the
interests of the game’s most important asset, i.e. the player and how they should start working closer together to look after the welfare of this vital asset.
„The main aim of the Forum is to create a platform for stakeholders to have regular interaction on burning issues around representation by unions and agents in transfers and contract negotiations as well as forming sustainable partnerships to at all times promote the interests of the players,“ a statement issued in South Africa reads.
CAF has also adopted the Club Licensing System and the Forum will have a full debate on how all stakeholders could use the System to protect their interests at large. The System talks about banning clubs, which have failed to fulfill their financial obligations to players and the Forum, will discuss how stakeholders could use these regulations to engage clubs on their outstanding commitments.
AFIA will also have its next general meeting during the Forum and in particular to discuss the future of the association in terms of expanding its footprint across the continent to regulate all football agents. It will also discuss critical issues pertaining to the impact of the FIFA Intermediary Regulations and the new Transfer Management System (TMS), which will be adopted by all FAs and how it will affect an agent’s businesses.
The African Football Academies Association (AFAA) will also be launched at the Forum with the aim to organise academies in Africa into a single voice. Academies attending the Forum will also be invited to become part of the UK-Africa Football Partnership (UAFP), which will be launched in London, England before the FA Cup Final in May 2017. The Partnership will invite all UK Pro-Clubs to adopt an academy in Africa, to support them with their own capacity building and to exchange football opportunities for young African players. A partnership with the football agents association in England will also be pursued as part of the UAFP.
The Forum will also facilitate the Founding Statement of the Interim Executive Steering Committee of the multi-stakeholder African Football Players Consortium as well as adopting the African Football Player Charter. Organisers of the event have called on people who are interested in serving on this Committee to make themselves available at the Forum.
Overall, the Forum will set the agenda to develop a common vision that will create a win-win situation for all those involved in the beautiful game.
