Mikel: Eagles want bonuses in Dollars, not Naira

By Daily Sports on October 19, 2016

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have insisted they be paid their match bonuses in US Dollars henceforth and they have made this clear to the NFF through their skipper Mikel Obi.

The Eagles have been paid most of their allowances and bonuses in Naira due to the poor finances of the NFF.

And that was why each player was paid a million Naira as win bonus for last month’s AFCON qualifier win over Tanzania.

The exchange rate was at the official rate of 200 Naira per Dollar.

The rate on the unofficial market is now put at 470 Naira to a Dollar.

The Eagles have now made it clear this will be the last time they will receive this payment in Naira.

They are entitled to $5000-a-man for this month’s World Cup qualifier win against Zambia in Ndola.

This payment has not been settled and the players said they expect to now be paid in dollars.

“Mikel has told the NFF leadership they will no longer receive their match bonus in Naira. They want to be paid in Dollars,” a top source specially informed.

“It will now be interesting how the NFF will handle this challenge ahead of the must-win match against Algeria in Uyo next month.” (mtnfootball.com)
