Enyimba coach Fatai Osho has explained that his team lost their shape and their discipline in a 4-1 defeat to Pyramids in the CAF Confederation Cup this past weekend.

The Nigerian side claimed an early lead at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo in the first leg of their quarterfinal tie on Sunday, with Victor Chukwuma Mbaoma netting inside the first 60 seconds.

However, the Egyptian hosts levelled on the quarter hour mark through Ramadon Sobhi and then dominated in the second half to establish a strong first-leg lead, with goals from Abdallah Said and Ibrahim Adel (two).

Osho revealed that the first-half performance went as planned, but the People’s Elephant lost shape after the interval.

“We had our game plan and going into the game they stuck to it,” the coach is quoted by Brila.

“We saw a lot of promises in the first half. The second half we lost it when we started noticing a lot of tiredness.

“They [the players] started playing out of shape and exposed themselves a lot.”

The Enyimba mentor, however, added that the tie is still alive, and he will be urging his team to fight in the return game in Aba on Sunday 23 May.

“We have to let them know that it’s not over yet,” added Osho. “We have to play and score and not concede; if we can do that we have a hope.

“A situation where we can score one or two goals, that brings hope and we have to work on their psyche.” (African Football)
