As the Super Eagles prepare to face the Desert Foxes of Algeria in the Day 2 of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers at the Godswill Akpabio in Uyo next month, a former Chairman House Committee on Sports during the 7th National Assembly, Honorable Godfrey Ali Gaiya, has called on all football stakeholders in the country to work together for maximum points.
Gaiya in an interview said the Super Eagles must consolidate on their away victory in Zambia against Algeria next month. According to him, the team and the technical team should remain focused and be battle ready for the task ahead.
The former federal lawmaker said, “We must work towards consolidating our away victory and stop celebrating the victory against Zambia and start preparation in earnest for Algeria. We still have five games to go which is 15 points. It is time for us to stop celebrating three points and go back to the training pitch to work on tactics and formations that will see our overcome the Algerians by picking another three points that will make us unassailable in our group.”
“The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Ministry of Sports must make sure that the players and the coaches are put in the right frame of minds before and during game. It gladdens my heart that we are beginning to see a team that is ready to win all their games and a coaching crew that is ready to give every player a chance to fight for shirt in the team. This must continue and there should be no room for any form of sentiments to becloud their sense of judgment in picking the right players for the right games,” Gaiya who is the proprietor of JZ Football of Kaduna added.
While advising that the team should not bank on home advantage before giving their best, he called on the Sports Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung, who he referred to as the nation’s number one sports officer to “open his arms and purse to accommodate the needs of the Eagles at all times.” (NAN)
