Nigeria prospect Samuel Edozie has ‘a special quality’ according to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
The 18-year-old attacker, who was born in England to Nigerian parents, is a key player in the club’s Under-23 ranks.
Edozie is currently part of Guardiola’s first-team squad which is preparing for the 2021/22 Premier League season.
The accomplished Spanish manager has been impressed by Edozie, who has scored in each of the club’s last three friendly matches.
“As a young talent, having a special quality, a guy who gets to the box with the intention to score a goal – it’s so important for wingers,” Guardiola told the club website.
“He’s an incredible, young player with good pace. But we have to be patient with him. He had minutes and played good and this is important.”
Odozie joined City from English Championship side Millwall in July 2019 as a scholar and he has impressed with his pace and trickery in his debut campaign.
Progressing to the City reserve team squad in 2020/21 season, Edozie is capable of playing both on the right and left-wing.
The highly-rated player has played for England’s under-18 national team, but he is eligible to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles through his parents.
He will be hoping to feature for City when they take on Leicester City in the 2021 Community Shield clash at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. (African Football)
