Agu wants Enyimba scalp in Cup tie

By Daily Sports on October 15, 2016

Nasarawa United goalkeeper coach, Alloy Agu says his side are determined to surpass their past semifinals performance in the 2016 Federation Cup.

The Solid Miners will clash with former winners Enyimba in Saturday’s Cup semifinals duel at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

Agu said the encounter is predictably going to be difficult for both sides given the pedigree and stake involved, but insisted that his side will emerge winners at the end of the day.

“We hope to overcome the hurdle as well as perform better than we did last year by getting into the final of the Federation Cup.

“It is an important task staring us in the face and we are positive we will get into the final after Saturday’s clash against Enyimba.

“Of course, there is no easy game in football, we just pray that God will step in to make the clash easy for us.

“Definitely, the semis will not be easy against Enyimba, Enyimba happen to be the best team in Nigeria and have achieved more honours than any other team in the land.

“However, the Cup semis is very interesting and crucial for both sides as the teams will try to launch themselves on the African scene through the platform of the competition.

“That’s certain to make the clash entertaining to the fans but we hope to overcome the daunting task and head into the final at the expense of Enyimba,” said the Super Eagles goalkeeper coach to supersport.com.

Agu said his side will be ready to challenge the top-flight side FC IfeanyiUbah for the Cup top prize after his side have seen off Enyimba’s challenge.

“Right now our focus is on the semifinals clash against Enyimba; when we are done with the job I know we will be ready to contest the Cup's top prize with FC IfeanyiUbah.

“Right now we want to sort out things first and foremost with Enyimba before we shift our minds to the final clash,” said the former Nigerian shot stopper.

The winners of the semifinals match between Enyimba and Nasarawa United will face the Anambra Warriors in the final for the Caf Confederation Cup ticket on a later date in Lagos. (supersport.com)
