The Anambra State wrestling head coach, Emeka Obidinma, has dedicated medals won by the state athletes during the recent National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State, to Governor Willie Obiano for his moral and financial support to the contingent.

Anambra State came second in wrestling with one gold, one silver and one bronze – finishing behind Kano State, which won one gold, one silver and one bronze medallist. The gold medal was won by Nnaemeka Kennchukwu in the 54kg male category and Ihu Ukamaka Vivian in the 60kg female category Stanley Adiba in the 63kg category.

An elated Obidinma while speaking with sports journalists said that Anambra State is full of abundant wrestling talents and ready to harness the untapped potential.

He noted that the state produced the first female Commonwealth gold medallist in wrestling, Ifeoma Nwoye, and other Africa champions as well as Commonwealth quarter finalist, Nweke Rosemary.

Obidinma, who doubles as the Anambra Director of Sports Planning and Competitions, revealed that with the help of the Commissioner for Sports, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Nwogu, and the Permanent Secretary, Dr Emma Uda Akpe, the wrestlers will bring more laurels to Anambra in subsequent competitions.

He also thanked the governor for not only supporting but extending the hand of fellowship to other sports that are now putting the state on the world map.

Obidinma promised to replicate a better form ahead of the National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Cross River State.
