Despite selecting his 23-man squad to face Nigeria for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda says performing players will get selected.
The former Chipolopolo striker was handed the reigns to lead the team on a caretaker basis and is now in charge of the side to meet the Super Eagles.
Speaking to the Times of Zambia website, the ex-Kaizer Chiefs hitman said the door is still open for players to join his side.
“We have made a selection of 23, but it does not mean that those that we dropped are not giving us anything,” said Nyirenda.
“We have a very good foundation, so it does not mean that those we dropped we have discarded them. It’s just the number that we needed but we have a lot of players that are doing well.

“The door is still open for both overseas professionals and local players.”
Meanwhile, the Football Association of Zambia's president, Andrew Kamanga believes Nyirenda had selected a competitive team.
“When you bring change, there is always an element of competition because what it does now is suddenly everyone thinks they have a good chance to play,” adds Kamanga.
“So it’s now up to the coach to determine who should really be playing. Because I can tell you we have got a good crop of local players who can play for the national team.
“But what we have not had is opportunities to create competition for those positions."
The Group B encounter is scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday whilst Algeria will face off against Cameroon in the other group match.(mtnfootball.com)
