The immediate past first vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and former Chairman of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, Chief Mike Okereke Umeh, has congratulated Enugu Rangers ahead of their final match today,in which victory will end their 32 years wait for the Nigerian elete league title.
When reminded that there is a possibility of Rivers United winning the league if Rangers falter today against El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri, Chief Umeh assured that there is no magic that Rivers United would perform to enable them over take Rangers even if Rangers did not play their last game which will take place in Enugu.
He insisted that Rangers won the league title after last week’s defeat of boastful Ikorodu United of Lagos in Abeokuta.
“Talking of Enugu Rangers victory against Ikorodu United FC in the NPFL I am so excited for Rangers. I am so excited that after waiting for long, Rangers have bounce back to reckoning by winning this year’s NPFL shield,” Chief Umeh began.
“I want to start by congratulating our darling team, Enugu Rangers International FC for doing us proud. Rangers’ victory in Abeokuta is heart warning particularly when one considers the long wait for this achievement.
“I am so delighted on hearing about the victory of the team on Sunday that I had to go to the DStv to watch the game because I was in the meeting when the game was going on. I was gratifying watching the banana short that resulted in the first goal. I have been long when one watched such a short,” Chief Umeh said.
“As the former chairman of the club, I am always with them spiritually despite not being with them physically. So, I am happy that Rangers have done what their teaming fan across the globe, have been yearning for.
Rangers are the pride of the Igbos the world over. And I know that the joy that this achievement will generate among the Igbos and their loved one cannot be quantified in material term. So, I am personally delighted for this long awaited achievement,” Chief Umeh said.
Speaking further, Chief Umeh queried how Rivers United would be able to score five goals pass their opponents to enable them over take Rangers and win the league when he was reminded that Rivers United still have a chance. He said the worst that could happen was for the Maiduguri Warriors to force Rangers to a draw which also means that Rangers are home and dry.
“Well, I don’t know how Rivers United FC of Pot Harcourt would be able to perform that miracle that will enable them overtake Rangers to win the league. As far as I am concerned, the league is over. This weekend’s games are mere formality because the league has been won and lost.
“It will take extra ordinary force for any other team to be declared winners except Rangers when hostilities end this weekend at the various venues where the games would be played. So, I congratulate Rangers once again as worthy champions of the 2015/16 NPF league season,” Chief Umeh explained.
