Technical Director, Plateau State Sports Council, Dorcas Yusuf Lenkat, is confident that her athletes will do well at the National Youth Games currently taking place in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Speaking with sports journalists over te weekend, she said the event should not only be about winning but to discoer good athletes and groom them to become national and international champions.
“The beauty of the National Youth Games is the number of athletes that will be picked by the national to groom,” Lenkat said, adding: „At the end of the day, if most Plateau athletes are picked then it is a great joy for the state.
“The State Governor Simon Lalong has been supportive and believes in youth developments through sports. That is why we were amongst the first set of states to arrive the competition earlier. ”
Daily Sports reports that Plateau State is parading 54 athletes and 22 officials and is competing in ten sports, namely athletics, badminton, chess, judo, karate, scrabble, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo and wreslting.
