The Chairman of Rivers State Chapter of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club, Victorine Ebere, has explained why she joined other state chapters of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club to throw her weight behind the Chairman of the club, Vincent Okumagba, who was recently purported to have been impeached by Rafiu Ladipo led group.
According to Ebere, her support for Okumagba stems from the fact that he is constitutionally the Chairman of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club and at the moment, has not breached any law in respect of his leadership of the club.
She explained that apart from the fact that Okumagba is the current chairman of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club, he is someone who has stood up to right the wrongs that have always been associated with the club.
Ebere explained that she joined the Nigerian Football Supporters Club since she was 14 because of the love for fatherland and would not sit by and see her fatherland go down the drain just because of the selfishness of one man. The Rivers Football Supporters Club Chairman bared her mind after their NEC meeting in Lagos last Saturday.
“I stand with Vincent Okumagba because he is taking us to the next level. I have been in this club since I was 14 because I love my country and I won’t like my country to go down the drain just because of one man. That is why I am here representing Nigerian Football Supporters Club, Rivers Chapter and here is my secretary,” Ebere stated.
“I want to state also that I stand with Okumagba not because of the love I have for him as a person rather I am standing with him because constitutionally he is the man in-charge. And I stand for him because he is seeing the vision we are also seeing in other chapters.
“We want a leader that would carry everyone along and not a leader who is self centered, selfish and who will do other dubious things and people hide under, because we are scared and we don’t know what to do and we don’t know what is going to happen. But this man has stood up and said I am going to carry everyone along.
“And again you talk of all the manipulative and meandering and all kinds of stupid things going on, it is time to call it a stop. And if you were in my shoes, you will also call for change. Right now, the time is ripe for change and we support change in the Nigerian Football Supporters Club. We are for forward ever and backward never,” Ebere explained.
Speaking on how prepared the Nigerian Football Supporters Club is for the Rio Olympics, Ebere said: “We are fully prepared, as you are seeing us here; we are fully prepared to storm Brazil to give maximum support to the Dream Team VI in Rio. We can move from here now.”
