Delta State warns on CNS title

By Maduabuchi Kalu on September 22, 2016

Defending champions Delta State has warned other states to stop dreaming of winning this year's edition of the Chief of Naval Staff Open Swimming Championship (CNS), holding from Thursday, September 22, to Sunday, September 25, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium swimming complex, Surulere, Lagos.

Delta won the 6th edition held in 2014 with 23 gold, 13 Silva and 12 bronze medals for a total of 48, closely followed by Bayelsa State with 8 gold, 3 silver medals while Nigerian Security  and Civil Defense Corps,  NSCDC came third with 3 gold, 12 silver and 2 bronze medals in Warri, Delta State.

Delta State has virtually won all the editions of the CNS and is ready to win more but not without stiff resistance from perennial rivals Edo and Bayelsa states.

It is expected that Samson Okpuakpo, who holds the National and Championship records in the 400m Individual Medley (men) with 5mins, 02secs set in 2014, would lead the Delta contingent.

In preparation for the Lagos show, the military and police teams have invaded the National Stadium Lagos Swimming Pool for their training under the watchful eyes of Coach Monday Odogbo.

Other early arrivals for the championship include Cross Rivers, Osun, Lagos and the Nigeria Navy.
