Enugu Rangers coach Imama Amapakabo has predicted that his side will be crowned champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this season.
Amapakabo masterminded a stunning 4-0 win for Rangers over title-chasing Rivers United on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium thanks to goals from Tope Olusesi, Godwin Aguda, Christian Madu and Obinna Nwobodo.
The youthful trainer has now declared that this season’s title is Rangers’ to lose and believes his charges can get their noses over the line.
“We have made a very big statement with the win over Rivers United and now the title is ours to lose.
“When you beat a team that is top of the table as comprehensively as we did, then you know we deserve respect.
“Nobody is getting carried away here but we know we can do it,” he told supersport.com.
Rangers have not won a major trophy in 32 years but now have four more games to navigate to possibly take the monkey off their backs.
Rangers have two away fixtures against 3SC and Ikorodu United and two home games against Sunshine Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors.
Amapakabo reckons his side can amass enough points from their remaining four games to be crowned champions at the end of the season.
“We have gone through our remaining fixtures and we know we can get the required points to be champions.
“The most important thing now is to remain focused and see that we continue to play at this level.
“If we do that, then I am sure we will be champions at the end of the season,” he said.
Rangers currently occupy the summit of the NPFL standings with 54 points from 32 matches.
