Olorunleke Ojo is hoping he will be included in Nigeria’s African Nation’s Championship squad.
The 22-year-old has been in stunning form for Akwa United since joining from Sunshine Stars, with 13 clean slates to his name in the recently concluded Nigeria Professional Football League season.
Aside from that, he helped the Promise Keepers win the 2017 Federation Cup title – where his heroics in the final earned him the Most Valuable Player and best goalkeeper prizes.
Despite his fine form, the goalkeeping prospect has not yet received a selection for the Nigeria senior national team, and he is keen to represent the Super Eagles in Morocco.
“Definitely, I hope that I will be at the African Nations Championship, but this is up to the national team selectors,” Ojo told Goal.
“Playing for the Super Eagles is a big deal for me and that accounts for why I put in good displays on a regular basis.
“Without sounding boastful, my performance last season was one of my best ever and if given a chance by the coaches, I definitely would not toy with it.”
Nigeria will face Libya, Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea in Group C of the preliminary round, and the former youth international believes Salisu Yusuf’s men are capable of claiming the title.
“I’ll say other teams are no pushover but we can win the African Nations Championship with this team,” he continued.
“But all depends on the mindset of all the players coupled with hardwork and a little bit of luck.
