Following the desired victory against oriental neighbours FC IfeanyiUba in rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Week 32 game played on Wednesday, the former captain and coach of the Enugu based Nigeria Premier League side, Enugu Rangers International, Christian Chukwu has expressed excitement over the victory that ensured that the maximum points were not shared or lost by the Flying Antelope.
Speaking to Dailysportsng.com on Thursday, the former Harambee Stars of Kenya coach said the three points that launched them back to contention as they are at par in points with leaders, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi has given them the needed impetus to continue to push for the league shield. At the moment; Wikki and Rangers are on 54 points after hostilities of Week 32 games.
“I must confess to you that I am excited over our victory against FC IfeanyiUba yesterday (Wednesday). It is true that we won by a lone goal but what is important is the maximum points and we have it. It was a very tight game and we thank God that we won at the end of the day,” Chukwu said.
“As you can see, the three points have taken us where we are supposed to be as we are back to the top except for the fact that Wikki have goal advantage over us but we have the same points at 54.
“Talking of what we are fighting for, I want to remind you that it is over 31 years since Rangers won the League last and that is what we desire to achieve this time round. We do not only want to win the league we also desire to return to the continent. These are the two basic desires of Rangers and I believe that with commitment of everybody these two basic desires would be achieved.
“I am aware that this is league that we are playing and it has not ended, but I believe if we remain focused and committed and continue to work hard, we will certainly achieve at least one of the two basic desires,” Chukwu enthused.
