LSGA champions inclusion with Leadership Cup

No fewer than 180 golfers participated in the just-concluded Leadership Cup of The Lagos Golf Experience, organised by the Lagos State Golf Association in a landmark event that combined golf, leadership, networking and social impact.

Held at the golf section of the Ikoyi Club 1938, a major highlight of the event was the Leadership Golf Clinic, which introduced 20 prominent leaders to the game. The participants included permanent secretaries in the Lagos State Government, as well as senior executives from the financial services and capital market sectors.

The official opening ceremony, marked by a ceremonial leadership tee-off, was performed by Princess Damilola Sunayon, who represented the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

She was joined in support of the initiative by the Group Managing Director of Abuja Investment Company Limited, Maureen Tamuno, who further demonstrated her support for women’s participation in golf by presenting a special golf accessories prize to the best golfer in the Queens of the Greens category.

The prize presentation and gala dinner attracted an impressive gathering of dignitaries from the corporate, political, social and sporting communities.

The Lagos Golf Experience was conceptualised as a flagship platform to unveil the vision of the new executive committee of the Lagos State Golf Association.

A key focus of the association is to encourage more women aged 18 and above, as well as children and young people, to take up golf and discover its benefits as a sport, networking platform and tool for personal and leadership development.

The Leadership Golf Clinic represents an important step in that direction by taking golf beyond its traditional audience and introducing influential leaders and professionals to the game.

Through initiatives such as The Lagos Golf Experience, Leadership Golf Clinic and Queens of the Greens, the Lagos State Golf Association is positioning golf not only as a competitive sport but also as a platform for leadership development, inclusion, mentorship, networking and community building.

The Lagos State Golf Association is led by its chairman, Deji Johnson, son of the late former Lagos State Governor, Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson.

A seasoned public relations and human resources practitioner, Kemi Olowoyo-Otegbade, is the vice-chairman.
