Olayinka ready for Saudi journey

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 21, 2026

Nigerian forward Peter Olayinka is ready for the next chapter of his career after completing a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Wehda on a two-year contract.

Olayinka joins Al Wehda as a free agent following his departure from Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia, where he made 14 league appearances and scored twice.

“New chapter. Same hunger, same passion, bigger goals. Ready for the journey ahead,” the 30-year-old wrote on Thursday as he announced his move to the Saudi club.

The striker brings considerable European experience to his new club, having played in Czechia, Serbia, Cyprus and Belgium during his career.

His most successful spell came at Slavia Prague, where he won three Czech First League titles and three Czech Cups.

Olayinka also enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade, winning two domestic doubles during his time at the club.

The forward has also represented Nigeria at international level and was part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

He will now begin a new chapter in Saudi Arabia, where former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo previously enjoyed a productive spell with Al Wehda between 2023 and 2025.

Ighalo scored 21 goals in 63 appearances for the club before leaving in 2025, and Olayinka will hope to emulate his compatriot by making a significant impact in the Saudi Pro League.
