By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 17, 2026

Defending champions Dolphins began their 2026 Women’s Basketball Premier League title defence on a winning note after defeating First Deep Water 59-46 in their opening game of the Atlantic Conference in Lagos on Sunday.

Dolphins made a shaky start, trailing 17-13 at the end of the first quarter, but responded strongly in the second quarter to take a 34-25 lead into halftime.

The champions maintained their momentum after the break, extending their advantage to 43-33 by the end of the third quarter before completing a 13-point victory.

The result gives Dolphins an encouraging start to their campaign as they seek to retain the title they won last year.

Dolphins claimed their second league title last year after defeating First Bank 61-55 in the playoff final. The triumph ended a 10-year wait for their second championship.

Meanwhile, debutants Victoria Queens made a statement in their first Atlantic Conference game, thrashing IGP Queens 69-39 for a 30-point victory.
