Sprinter Favour Ashe has praised the National Sports Commission for providing a world-class training camp for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, and also revealed that camp allowances have been paid in full, The PUNCH reports.
Ashe, known for his explosive speed on the track, commended the NSC for the quality of the facilities, accommodation, and feeding provided for the athletes in camp.
“The camp has been excellent. Our allowances have been paid in full, the facilities are world-class, and the feeding is of a very high standard. The National Sports Commission has done a fantastic job in ensuring we have everything we need to prepare for the Commonwealth Games,” Ashe said.
The sprinter said the arrangements had allowed the athletes to focus solely on their preparations without the distraction of unresolved welfare issues, a sentiment echoed by former World and Olympic wrestling champion Daniel Igali, who commended the NSC leadership for similar reasons in an earlier interview.
The NSC, under the leadership of chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and director general, Bukola Olopade, has continued to prioritise athlete welfare in the build-up to the Games, as Team Nigeria arrived in the United Kingdom early enough for proper acclimatisation.
Ashe’s comments add to the growing confidence within Team Nigeria’s camp as the country finalises preparations for Glasgow, where Nigerian athletes across athletics, weightlifting, boxing and the para sports are expected to challenge for medals.
