On a rainy Sunday, the waterlogged field at the University of Lagos Sports Centre did not stop the young athletes in the U-13 JOF Cup Football Tournament final from showcasing their impressive soccer skills, entertaining both fans and distinguished guests.

The match that featured FC VI-Foot Football Academy from Ijora and Fortune Football Academy from Oshodi concluded without any goals, yet the boys from Fortune FA triumphed in the penalty shootout, winning 3-1.

The corporate sponsor of the grassroots tournament, JOF Nigeria Limited, awarded prizes to the top four teams, with Fortune FA, the champions of this seventh edition, receiving N750,000, while the runners-up, VI Foot, earned N500,000. The third-place finishers, Soccer City Football Academy from Iwaya, took home N350,000 after defeating Ultimate Football Academy 1-0. Additionally, Ultimate FA walked away with N250,000.

Recognition was also given to individual players who showcased exceptional performances throughout the competition.

Okoroma Destiny from FC VI-Foot was honoured as the top goal scorer. Odesola Odunayo from Fortune FA earned the title of Most Valuable Player, and Alabi Faruk from Fortune FA was recognised as the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

Mr Segun Olugboyegun, the Chairman of JOF Nigeria Limited, expressed that sponsoring the tournament reflects the company's belief that "Our young footballers can rise to become world champions in the future," noting that JOF Nigeria Limited is committed to investing in the youngsters' futures by providing them with structured learning opportunities through football competitions.

“I am pleased to share that all the young participants in this seventh edition displayed their hopes and dreams on the field. They have shown incredible determination and discipline and exhibited their talents for all to see.”

Olugboyegun extended his gratitude to the coaches, parents, and organisers of the event, particularly the Lagos State Grassroots Football Association.

To the business associates, banks, insurers, and other attendees, he emphasised that support should extend beyond just him or JOF, encouraging them to join in shaping the future of Nigerian youth and society.

He confirmed that the competition will continue, stating, "The U-13 JOF Cup Football Tournament is a legacy initiative that I am deeply committed to," he remarked.

Despite the severe rain on Sunday, the closing ceremony of the seventh U-13 JOF Cup drew a substantial crowd, including Mr. Segun Olugboyegun, Chairman of JOF Nigeria Limited, his spouse, former Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of Lagos State, Mr. and Mrs. Demola Odeyemi, the Managing Director of Optimus Bank, Managing Director of JOF Nigeria Limited, Ms. Heather Frankle, Mrs. Chioma Udu from Guaranty Trust Bank, Captain Femi Ibitoye, and Hon. Olumide Atungbayila from the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning, among others.
