The stage is set for the grand finale of the 47th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria Open Senior Tennis Championship, with finalists in the men’s and women’s singles categories now confirmed ahead of the title-deciding matches at the Tennis Courts of Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Defending champion and third seed Michael Emmanuel, who has reached the final for the second consecutive year, will face Nigeria’s current number one and tournament top seed, Abua Canice, in the men’s singles final. In the women’s singles, fifth seed Bassey Etoro will take on sixth seed Ogunjobi Success for the title.

Etoro reached the final after a hard-fought three-set victory over Emmanuel-Essien Bright, winning 6-0, 1-6, 6-4, while Success eliminated top seed Mohammed Khadijat in similarly tight fashion, prevailing 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

In the men’s singles semi-finals, Canice, who is chasing his first CBN Senior Tennis title, eased past eighth seed Yusuf Abubakar in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Emmanuel, meanwhile, fought back from a set down to defeat Jimoh Joseph 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to set up his showdown with Canice.

Action also continues in the wheelchair singles category as the tournament builds towards its conclusion.
