Real Madrid Want Salah But Can’t Afford Him — Calderon

By Daily sports on March 2, 2021

Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah is on Real Madrid’s shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window.

This is according to former Madrid president Ramon Calderon with the world-class winger’s contract with English champions, Liverpool FC sent to expire in June 2023.

A couple of months ago, Salah admitted that he would be interested in joining either Madrid and FC Barcelona – calling the Spanish giants ‘top clubs’.

Calderon, who served the club between 2006 to 2009, has confirmed that Salah is wanted by Madrid, but he indicated that the Spanish champions cannot afford Salah.

“A great player and a goal-scorer. He helped Liverpool by giving out his best, but I don’t think they will let him go,” Calderon told On Time Sports.

“It is expected that if they think about it, they will let him go only for a lot of money.

“Salah is wanted, of course, by Real Madrid, but Liverpool will ask for a lot of money, and if that deal is completed, it will be crucial.”

Salah has netted 24 goals in 36 matches thus far this season including 17 in the Premier League as he chases down a third Golden Boot.

The 28-year-old helped end Liverpool’s 30-year league title drought by winning the 2019/20 Premier League title.

He has also won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with the Reds. (African Football)
