Onitsha Country Club Inaugurates N200m 300-seater Capacity Standard Tennis Pavilion, One-storey Bar

In the efforts to boost tennis sport in Anambra State, the Onitsha Country Club, Fegge, has achieved remarkable milestones with the inauguration of N150million 300-seater Standard Tennis Pavilion and N50million One-Storey Heineken Bar to upgrade the over 50-year-old club.

The club also held an award, induction of new members and inauguration of  tennis academy for the purpose.

"These projects symbolise progress, vision and determination, and represent investments in the future of our club, our energetic youths and sports development of Onitsha and Anambra state," President of the club, Anietonwa Kingsley Ajulufo said at the event on Sunday.

Ajulufo assured the determination to reposition of the Onitsha Country Club on the national map through sports development and youth empowerment in Anambra State.

He appreciated the Special Guest of Honour, Emeka Okonkwo (E-Money), the Chairman of Emy Cargo Shipping and Bonded Terminal, who during his cutting of the modern edifice tape assured financial contributions to boost the upliftment of the club. 

He appreciated also the numerous donors and special tribute to itself Chairman Board of Trustees, Tony Ezenna, whose generous donation provided the seed funding with which the club procured the first materials used for the tennis pavilion.

While appreciating the management and members of the Onitsha Country Club, Ajulufo also commended members of the pavilion committee led by Ndubuisi Aniekwe, whose passion, commitment and relentless pursuit brought the monumental project to completion within seven months.

"It is noteworthy that the groundbreaking ceremony for this pavilion was performed on Nov. 23, 2025, and barely seven months later we are commissioning what stands today as the first standard tennis pavilion in Onitsha, together with the One-Storey Heineken Bar, conceived to partner with Nigerian Breweries PLC in advancing sports development in Anambra State," the president affirmed.

He commended also the members for their sacrifices, commitment and determination in ensuring the projects were completed in record time.

"I also acknowledged the highly esteemed donors including Daniel Nwannaka Chukwudozie, the founder of Dozzy Oil and Gas Ltd., Chukwuebuka Onunkwo, the founder of Seahorse Oil and Gas Ltd., and Ndubuisi Orji, the CEO of Rhondis Industries Ltd., for their donations of N10 million each for the accelerated realisation of this vision.

"Today's milestone is a testament to what can be achieved when people unite around a common purpose with dedication and determination," Ajulufo stressed.

He explained that the club also planned for more projects, including a miniature football pitch, resurfacing of the existing four tennis courts, and the conversion of its squash hall to an indoor badminton hall with a swimming pool at the rooftop

Patrick Aghamba, Commissioner for Youth and Sports congratulated the president, entire management and members of the club for the remarkable achievements. 

He said the facility had undauntedly enhanced the club status as one of the best recreation sporting institution in Nigeria.

Aghamba stated that the club had made valuable contributions to sports development in the state, which align perfectly with the governor's steadfast under human capital development.

Victor Ochei, President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, represented by Kingsley Uduh also commended the Onitsha Country Club for the development of the sport in the country.

The event was marked with fun fare as local women dancing troupe entertained the guests.
