Tinubu congratulates basketball star Anosike on NBL title, MVP award in China

By Daily Sports Nigeria on April 25, 2026

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian-American basketball star Ejimofor Anosike on winning the 2026 National Basketball League Championship title with China’s Hong Kong Bulls.

Anosike swept the Finals Most Valuable Player award, the Best International Player award, and the Slam Dunk Champion title as the Bulls clinched the 2026 NBL title.

Tinubu, in a statement on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the feat as a source of pride for Nigeria and an inspiration to young athletes across the continent.

The President also singled out Anosike’s commitment to the national team despite his overseas success, saying the player’s continued passion for the D’Tigers showed that international recognition had not dimmed his patriotism.

“I commend him for not allowing his successes on the international stage to overshadow his sense of patriotism, as evidenced by the passion he exhibits as a member of Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers.

“Anosike’s accomplishments reflect the growing global impact of Nigerians in sports and underscore the importance of continued investment in youth development and sporting excellence,” Tinubu said.

Anosike, who holds dual Nigerian and American nationality, has been a regular feature for the D’Tigers, Nigeria’s men’s national basketball team, combining club commitments in Asia with international duty.
