Khan warns Paul ahead ‘life-threatening’ Joshua fight

By Daily Sports Nigeria on December 11, 2025

Muhammad Ali’s grandson and former world champion Amir Khan have warned Jake Paul about the serious dangers he faces when he steps into the ring against Anthony Joshua on December 19.

Nico Ali, whose legendary grandfather suffered Parkinson’s disease due to damage sustained in boxing, fears for Paul’s safety ahead of the Netflix-televised heavyweight bout in Miami.

“It’s very dangerous for Jake Paul. People think a lot of his fights are rigged and whatnot. Boxing is not rigged, it’s very dangerous,” Ali told SunSport.

“You should be just watching out, keeping an eye out on Jake, pray for Jake, it’s dangerous. Boxing’s a serious thing.”

The 26-year-old middleweight emphasised the sport’s inherent risks, adding, “Boxing is not a game, you can’t play boxing. Boxing is very serious; injuries come later after your career, people die in the ring. People sometimes don’t make it back home after the fight.”

Khan has also expressed grave concerns about the bout, believing Paul is putting his life on the line.

“Someone like Jake Paul needs to be protected by his own team, no one’s really helping him in my opinion,” Khan told SunSport.

“You can put the poor guy’s life on the line, and that one punch can always change your life. So let’s hope that he comes out of this fight in one piece because we know, we all know there’s only one winner in this fight.”

The professionally-sanctioned fight will be contested over eight three-minute rounds with 10oz gloves, with Joshua’s only restriction being a maximum weigh-in of 245lb.

Paul, 28, has fought just once at heavyweight, beating 58-year-old Mike Tyson in November. Joshua, 36, returns following his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

Ali Walsh, who turned down $3m to face Paul in 2024, returns to action on Friday against Ugandan Jeremiah Sserwadda with a 12-2-1 record.
