Eagles coach deserves praise – Adepoju

By Daily Sports Nigeria on November 15, 2025

Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has praised Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle for the remarkable turnaround he has brought to the national team since his appointment, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Nigeria endured a difficult start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, failing to record a win in their first four matches. The poor run raised concerns amongst supporters and stakeholders over the team’s chances of progressing.

However, the Super Eagles have shown significant improvement under Chelle. Since the Malian tactician took charge, Nigeria has gone unbeaten, securing five wins and two draws to book a place in the final stage of the World Cup playoffs.

Speaking to Sporty TV after Nigeria’s 4-1 victory over Gabon on Thursday night, Adepoju commended the coach’s courage in taking the job during a turbulent period and lauded the positive changes he has introduced.

“I think Chelle has done a great job. When he was employed, the situation we were at that moment, no coach would have taken the job,” he said.

“He came and took the job, and he is pulling his weight and putting everything in good perspective, and we are seeing good games with the Super Eagles. He deserves accolades and all our praise. He is really doing a great job.”

Nigeria will take on DR Congo in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs on Sunday. The Super Eagles will now aim to win the decisive fixture, as a triumph in the final would seal their place in the intercontinental playoffs and keep their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico alive.
