Gala European record thrills Osimhen

By Daily Sports Nigeria on October 24, 2025

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has expressed delight after making history in his side’s 3–0 win over Bodø/Glimt, a victory that saw him break Burak Yılmaz’s European scoring record for the club, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian forward scored twice in the third and 33rd minutes to lead Galatasaray to an emphatic home win.

His brace not only secured the points but also wrote his name into the club’s record books as the first player ever to score in seven consecutive European matches, surpassing Yılmaz’s long-standing mark.

Osimhen, who scored 37 goals and provided seven assists in 41 games for Galatasaray last season before penning a permanent four-year deal in August, had found the back of the net against Tottenham Hotspur, AZ Alkmaar, Dynamo Kiev and Ajax in the UEFA Europa League last season before keeping his streak alive against Liverpool in Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory in their last Champions League outing.

Osimhen’s opening goal, timed at just three minutes, also entered Galatasaray’s history as the fastest ever scored by the club in the Champions League. He followed it up with a precise finish in the first half to double the lead before being substituted to a standing ovation from supporters.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Osimhen appeared pleasantly surprised when informed of his latest milestone.

“Really? Burak Yılmaz is a great legend,” he said.

“Just being mentioned in the same sentence as him is a great honour for me.”

Osimhen’s remarkable scoring run includes goals against Tottenham, AZ Alkmaar, Dynamo Kyiv, Ajax, Liverpool, and now Bodø/Glimt.

Since joining the Turkish champions last season, the Super Eagles star has been in outstanding form, amassing 42 goals and eight assists in 49 appearances while helping the club lift two trophies.

Osimhen was also named Player of the Match in both of his last two Champions League outings, first after a decisive display against Liverpool and again following his brace against Bodø/Glimt.

The 26-year-old’s performance has further strengthened Galatasaray’s campaign in Europe and underscored his growing status as one of the continent’s most lethal forwards.

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk’s side now sit in a better position in the Champions League standings after recording two victories and one defeat in their opening three games.
