NPFL: Remo, Rangers back to winning ways

By Daily Sports Nigeria on October 7, 2025

Remo Stars and Rangers International returned to winning ways on Monday as both clubs secured important victories in their respective Nigeria Premier Football League fixtures on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

At the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, defending champions Remo Stars overcame a stubborn Wikki Tourists side with a 2–0 win, while Rangers International edged Katsina United 1–0 in a match that resumed on Monday morning after being suspended due to heavy rainfall in Enugu.

After back-to-back league defeats to Plateau United and Abia Warriors, Remo were desperate to steady their campaign following their impressive CAF Champions League outings.

The first half saw the hosts dominate possession but struggle to find a breakthrough despite several chances from Olamilekan Adedayo and Ibrahim Shuaib.

The game came alive in the second half when Adama Goita finally broke the deadlock in the 79th minute, stabbing home at the back post from an Ibrahim Abubakar cross.

With momentum in their favour, Alex Oyowah doubled the advantage in the 90th minute, capitalising on a goalkeeper’s error to grab all three points for the Sky Blue Stars.

The victory lifts Daniel Ogunmodede’s men to ninth on the NPFL table with ten points from six matches, reigniting their domestic form after recent struggles.

In Enugu, Rangers completed their rain-interrupted match against Katsina United with a narrow 1–0 victory.

The fixture, initially halted on Sunday due to a waterlogged pitch at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, resumed early Monday morning.

It took the Flying Antelopes just 25 minutes of resumed play to find the breakthrough, as Godwin Obaje latched onto a low cross to slot home the decisive goal.

Despite being reduced to ten men late on after Jerry was sent off for a reckless tackle, Rangers held firm to preserve their lead until full-time.

The win, their second of the season, sees Rangers climb from 17th to 13th on the table with eight points and a game in hand against Abia Warriors. Katsina United, who missed a chance to climb into the top half, remain tenth with nine points.

Rangers’ next assignment comes on Wednesday when they host Abia Warriors in a postponed matchday four fixture, while Remo Stars will look to build on their momentum in their next league outing against Katsina United.
