The National Sports Commission has reaffirmed its support for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event is scheduled for September 13 to September 21.
A statement on Thursday by Kola Daniel, a media aide to the Director-General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, said he urged the athletes to give their best and bring honour to the country.
He was also quoted as saying that the commission and Nigerians were firmly behind the team.
“From the beginning, the NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, declared that Nigeria must get it right in athletics.
“This is a moment of pride. We trust our athletes to compete with determination and secure podium finishes.
“The commission will continue to support them and stand behind them as they fly our flag in Tokyo,” Olopade said.
Olopade would be in Tokyo to provide frontline support to the team throughout the competition.
NAN also reports that the 15-member team is led by world record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, and long jump star Ese Brume.
They are joined by a mix of seasoned and emerging athletes competing in sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles.
