Liverpool reject reports that club is for sale

By Daily Sports on November 10, 2018

Liverpool have denied claims that principal owner John W. Henry is quietly looking to sell the club.

On Thursday, The New York Post reported that Henry, who also owns MLB franchise the Boston Red Sox, had signalled he was running a low-key process to sell the Premier League club.

However, Liverpool continue to dismiss suggestions that Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has put the club on the market.

“As loath as we are to give a story of this nature a meaningful response, on behalf of the club’s ownership I can completely dismiss this unfounded speculation,” a Liverpool spokesperson said.

“To repeat once again – the club is not for sale, including any ‘quiet process’ or anything of that nature.”

In August, a spokesperson said Liverpool were not for sale when responding to reports of an attempted takeover by Sheik Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nehayan that valued the club at £2 billion.

Liverpool’s owners have, however, said they would be open to selling a minority share of the club under the right circumstances.

FSG purchased Liverpool in a £300 million deal in October 2010.  (ESPN)
