Team Ekiti continued its impressive run at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, on Thursday, claiming Gold in male Basketball.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Team Ekiti edged past Team Lagos 19-18 in a thrilling basketball final.

Both teams showcased determination, skill, and composure, but the Ekiti squad demonstrated greater resilience to secure the gold in a closely contested match.

Reacting to the victory, State Basketball Coach Adetayo Awojinrin expressed pride in the players’ performance:

“I am happy God crowned our efforts with success. Despite the tough matches we faced during the group stage, we managed to defeat Lagos in the final.

“I am proud of the team and believe this success will inspire them to win more gold medals in the future,” Awojinrin said.

In Kungfu, Funbi Adedoyin earned bronze in the 48kg female category, with State Head Coach, Ronke Raji, praising her resilience against competitors from other states.

Team Ekiti’s Para Athlete, Suleiman Abdulazeez, also added to the medal tally by winning Gold in Discus and Silver in Shot Put.

Three standout athletes from Team Ekiti, Abdulazeez Suleiman, Precious Ayodele (Ayo Olopon player), and Damilola Oni (cricket player), have been invited to the National Federation for their exceptional performances.

With these achievements, Team Ekiti currently boasts a total of two gold, three silver, and three bronze medals, further cementing their status as one of the top-performing teams at Asaba 2025.
