Oyede names Piety, Agboya, others for World Cup qualifiers

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 26, 2025

Female Yellow Greens coach Leke Oyede has released the final 14-player squad for the 2026 ICC T20 Women’s World Cup Africa Qualifier, which will take place in Namibia from August 28 to September 7, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Oyede made a tough call of dropping some of his established players, including captain Favour Eseigbe, Esther Sandy and Abigail Igbobie, as Peculiar Agboya will lead the team to Namibia.

Nigeria’s captain to the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia earlier this year, Piety Lucky, also tops the list of players for the assignment.

Most of the other players are from the team that excelled in Malaysia earlier this year, including Lilian Ude, Shola Adekunle, Kehinde Amusa, Peace Usen, Victory Igbinedion, Anointed Akhigbe, Christabel Chukwuonye and Omosigho Eguakun.

Wicket keeper Sarah Etim will also serve as vice-captain, while the team has one debutant, Oseyande Omonkhobhio.

Fierce batter Salome Sunday and Racheal Samson complete the team.

Nigeria will battle Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Rwanda and Sierra Leone at the qualifiers.

The top two teams from the Africa Qualifiers will advance to the global qualifiers, which will be played later in the year.

The 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup will be played in England.
