Female Yellow Greens anticipate World Cup qualifiers final squad

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 22, 2025

The camp of the Nigerian senior women’s cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, is soaked in high anticipation, as the head coach, Leke Oyede, is set to name the final 15-player squad for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Nigerian players are intensifying their preparations at a closed camp in Lagos, ahead of the Africa Qualifiers, which will take place in Namibia from August 28 to September 7.

The final squad is expected to be out by Monday.

Leke Oyede’s team began training last month in Benin City, Edo State, with 22 players before the coach dropped four players ahead of the final lap in Lagos.

“I think we have a big chance at qualifying. Two teams are qualifying from the stage for the global qualifiers. If we put up a good fight, we can make it into the semis, which determines the qualification,” Oyede told PUNCH Sports Extra.

“We are playing Sierra Leone in the first game and the hosts, Namibia, in the second game. Namibia used to beat us, but we have beaten them recently, and that has helped us a lot. Every opponent knows that we aren’t coming just to participate, and I think how well we do in our first two games will go a long way in pushing us towards our goal.”

Nigeria will battle Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Rwanda and Sierra Leone at the qualifiers.

The top two teams from the Africa Qualifiers will advance to the global qualifiers, which will be played later in the year.

The 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup will be played in England.
