Eagles Must Fight For Result Vs Leone Stars –Mouktar

By Daily Sports Nigeria on June 16, 2023

The Chairman of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Football Association, Adam Mouktar, has warned the Super Eagles to be wary of the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in the 2023 AFCON qualifying match at Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex, Paynesville, in Monrovia, Liberia, on Sunday, June 18 2023, reports Completesports.com.

According to Mouktar, the Leone Stars did not come easy in the reverse fixture – Super Eagles earned a hard-fought 2-1 win in the first leg at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja, on June 9 2022, and it will be tougher in this return game on a neutral ground in Monrovia.

“I expect Super Eagles to go to Monrovia and win but it is not going to be a walk in the park. it is never going to be because football has changed a lot and it has always been edgy playing some of these countries like Cape Verde in the past and so many teams have always been tough,” Mouktar told Completesports.com.

“Playing in a neutral ground as the away team, there will be a lot of antics and tactics by the home side to win so the Super Eagles must be ready to give their all to beat Sierra Leone and book Nigeria’s ticket to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire

“I think the Super Eagles must play the game with all seriousness. They have to fight very well to get a result. I wish them well but they must not be complacent,” Mouktar who will miss travelling with the Eagles because the FCT FA election will hold on Saturday concluded.

Guinea Bissau currently tops the Group A of the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers with 10 points from five games. Nigeria is in second position on nine points from four games, while Sierra Leone sits in third spot on five points, also from four matches. Sao Tome and Principe brings up the rear with one point from five games.

The Super Eagles will qualify for the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire, billed to hold from 13 January to 11 February 2024, if they avoid defeat against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in Monrovia, even with a game to spare.
