All is now set for the 13th West Africa deaf football tournament and the third West Africa deaf athletics championship in Abuja.
The event is slated to hold from August 18 to 30 at Package ‘B’ of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The President of the West Africa Deaf Sports Union, Amuda Ibrahim, revealed that the 2025 edition of the championship was in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of the West African States and the continuous empowerment of deaf athletes in the sub-region.
Eight countries will feature in the two-week event. The participating countries include Burkina Faso, the Ivory Coast, Gambia, Liberia, Mali, the Niger Republic and host nation Nigeria.
The event is also serving as a qualifier for major international championships.
Meanwhile, the Vice President of the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation, Ige-Jenyo Olawale, who is also the technical committee chairman, promised that the championship will be hitch-free as everything is already in place in terms of logistics.
He noted that team Nigeria athletes resumed close camping ahead of the competition, hence are expected to come out tops, knowing full well that all eyes are on them to perform.
